Obamacare

Ok, so last time I talked about a state issue. This time, I want to talk about nationalized health care. Health care is a touchy issue. I think it would be great if every American could have health care. On face value, the obvious thing you would think to do is be compassionate and give every American health care. However, this idea would be disastrous. The national debt is currently $11.5 TRILLION. This is unbelievable and insane! Obama's health care plan will cost $1 TRILLION over 10 years which is $230 billion a year. This is clearly insustainable. This President has spent more than ALL of the previous 43 Presidents COMBINED! Does anybody remember the words: BALANCED BUDGET!?!?!? That would be so nice. The next candidate who runs on having a balanced budget, that's who I'm going to vote for. The "rich" can't pay for this plan no matter how much they raise taxes. Government can't be the provider for the American people. We just CAN'T afford it.

We already have the BEST health care system in the world. Take this excerpt from Glenn Beck:

"Americans have a better survival rate for 13 of the 16 most common cancers than Europe. Take prostate cancer: 91.9 percent of men live through it, versus 73.7 percent in France and just 51.1 percent in Britain.
Or that every year Britain's National Health Service cancels about 100,000 operations. Think of it this way: When you're counting on a procedure that means life or death, you don't want to have some bureaucratic bonehead who's only counting dollars and cents. And you certainly don't want to be standing in a long line, like the one million Brits currently waiting to be admitted to a hospital and another 200,000 just hoping to get on a waiting list.
We get annoyed when it takes 45 minutes to see the doctor — at least we get to see one!
And are we really going to listen to and follow in the footsteps of Europe, the place that when it gets a little hotter than usual — like it did in August of 2003 — they have 37,000 people die? Statistics show it's even worse in Canada, where 800,000 of their 33 million citizens are on waiting lists for more than 18 weeks"

So, WHY would we want to become like Europe?!?! So, this is just a test I go by.....Whatever France does, we should do the opposite. Massachusetts is one state in the U.S. that has universal health care. It's almost bankrupt. California is also thinking about universal health care....Obama might have to BAIL OUT California.

There are other ways to reform health care like minimizing malpractice suits with doctors which would lower health care costs substantially. The system isn't perfect, but it's much better than anything Europe has to offer. That is why a lot of their citizens come to the States for surgeries.

Providing health care for every American is a "noble" idea, but reality says NO!

  1. Very well researched. I lived in France for 2 years. There system is completely run down. The hospitals are old, broken down buildings with C rate doctors paid a little better than $20 an hour. It is a sad thing to see that so many people are sick and yet rejected from the hospitals because of lack of time and resources to care for them. I saw one of the men who had prostate cancer who had to suffer through weeks in the hospital. It was simply terrible in a blank and empty room with just a bed. No tv because you had to pay rent for it. No privacy with so many people running around the hospital and multiple people in a room. It was terribly sad. The government care was so poor that many people just went without it. Even with the government funding, the homeless were not covered. France's unemployment has continued to increase since it's large commitment to Socialism. It is now at 8.2 and expected to go well over 10% by the end of the year. Clayton, you are definitely right on this one!

  2. I totally agree with you and can't understand why liberals think this is a good idea. Especially when other countries have tried and failed! America is a great country, but we don't have some magical powers to make universal health care work just because we are America. If I wanted to sound like a conspiracy theorist I could say that Obama is trying to weaken all of us with crappy healthcare so that when he tries to take over the country as a dictator we will all be too sick to fight him...but I guess I won't go that far today. =P

P.S. Change the red, it's giving me a headache SEttle!

  3. I'm going to come at this with the view of a future health care professional. I think there are quite a few things that we as a public don't really take into account when we think of universal health care. Like you said, the waits are ridiculous. Second, the health care is expensive here because it's also very good, like you said.

On the other hand, the money we pay to the health care industry rarely goes to the doctors and nurses. There are some crooks who become doctors, but there are even more in the medial equipment industry. A silicon penile prosthesis that probably cost $20 to make costs a patient hundreds upon hundres of dollars. If we're going to reform something, why not attack the pharmacies and hospitals, for jacking up prices. Why not go after the equipment industries, who hold illegal monopolies?

Then there's the issue of malpractice. I won't go into detail, but doctors HAVE to charge a lot, because we are so excited to sue everyone that doctors are constantly getting sued for mistakes unforseen. There are many cases where doctors and nurses are careless and should be sued, but there are many more where a person feels entitled to things they aren't entitles to. For instance, there is a group of people suing doctors who gave them false hips. The treatment was experimental (which the patients knew), and it didn't work out. The doctors are getting sued, of course. What the malpractice suit doesn't take into account is the fact that these people had no hope of ever walking again. They walk now, even if it's not comfortable. I think it's time we all realize that if we want cheap health care, we need to realize there are risks involved whenever we mess with the human body.

Anyway, Senator Settle, well stated here. You have my vote!
